What is Bulletproof Coffee

Putting butter in you coffee? Is it even drinkable? Bulletproof Coffee looks like latte but not quite the same. Concocted by Dave Asprey, an American entrepreneur and self-described “biohacker”.

Asprey developed his Bulletproof Coffee recipe after traveling to Tibet and tasting yak-butter tea drinks. He returned to the United States and experimented with buttered drink recipes and published the preparation for his buttered coffee drink on his blog in 2009. Bulletproof coffee is designed to be an on-the-go alternative to breakfast that gives your body a dose of healthy fats and nutrients.

Based on “Bulletproof Coffee”, Asprey developed and marketed Bulletproof diet that recommends incorporating intermittent fasting and ketogenic diets, which claimed helping observers of both diets feel satiated, alert, and focused.

SIDE NOTE:

Intermittent fasting: is an eating style where you eat within a specific time period, and fast the rest of the time.

Intermittent fasting can be an effective way to manage your weight. But research shows it has tons of other benefits, too — like more energy, brain power and cellular protection.

Keto Diet: The keto diet is made up of mostly fats, moderate protein and a small amount of carbs.

Eating a lot of fat and very few carbs puts you in ketosis, a metabolic state where your body burns fat instead of carbs for fuel.

Bulletproof Coffee was originally designed to complement the keto diet, or a low carbohydrate and high fat diet. Instead of food, fat in butter and coconut oil provide the fuel the body needs and at the same time reduce cravings for snacking. Furthermore, Bulletproof Coffee in the morning is believed to keep your body in ketosis — a metabolic state in which your body burns fat rather than glucose — which is why it is popular among people who use the keto diet. Here is the Bulletproof Coffee recipe for those of keto diet fans.

BULLETPROOF COFFEE INGREDIENTS

Brew 1 cup (8-12 ounces) of coffee using filtered water with 2 ½ heaping tablespoons of freshly ground Bulletproof Coffee beans. Use a French Press for ease of use and to preserve beneficial coffee oils that paper filters keep out.

Add 1 teaspoon to 2 tablespoons of coconut oil. Start with 1 teaspoon per cup and work your way up to 1-2 tablespoons over several days.

Add 1-2 tablespoons of grass-fed, unsalted butter or 1-2 teaspoons of Grass-Fed Ghee (for those who can’t tolerate dairy). You read that right. It says butter. Make sure your butter is unsalted.

Mix it all in a blender for 20-30 seconds until it looks like a foamy latte.

Bulletproof Coffee is a growing trend in dietary methods that use coffee, oil, and butter as ingredients. Many also support the claim that Bulletproof Coffee can prevent hunger, increase long-lasting energy, and also better mental focus. Nevertheless it’s not almighty and also there is not enough evidence to confirm their claim. That’s why it’s suggested to drink in moderation and combine it with balanced nutrients.
